Charging point

Fill up from your own roof.

A charging point at home charges the car overnight, or during the day on the electricity from your panels. Our electricians fit smart units compatible with every vehicle, adapt the consumer unit and handle the declaration to the grid operator.

  • Compatible with every vehicle
  • Steered by your solar surplus
  • Grid paperwork included

Why a charging point rather than a socket

A domestic socket is not built to charge a car.

Charging from an ordinary socket means drawing several kilowatts for eight hours through a circuit designed for a vacuum cleaner. It is slow, and it is the leading cause of overheating in domestic installations. A charging point has its own circuit, its own protection, and it talks to the car to adapt the charge.

Fitted by an electrician, it is also the only compliant and insurable solution, and the only one that lets you charge from your panels rather than from the grid.

Three to five times faster

A full charge overnight instead of a partial one, even on a large battery.

Powered by your panels

A steered unit follows the roof's production and charges first on the surplus, the electricity that costs you nothing.

Without tripping the house

Dedicated circuit and suitable protection: the charging point lives alongside the heat pump and the rest of the board.

Compliant and declared

Installation to standard and declaration to the grid operator, both handled by us.

Choosing your unit

7.4 or 11 kW, steered or not: what actually changes.

Three questions settle it: how much power reaches your house, how many kilometres you drive, and whether you have solar panels.

7.4 kW single phase

The standard for a house on a single-phase connection. Charges most cars overnight.

Best for
One vehicle, daily commutes, overnight charging.
Charging time
An average battery recovers most of its range overnight.
Requirement
Enough power available at the meter.

11 kW three phase

For three-phase connections, high-mileage drivers or households with two electric cars.

Best for
Long distances, two cars, faster daytime charging.
Charging time
Considerably shorter than single phase.
Requirement
Three-phase connection and grid operator approval.

Steered unit

It reads your panels' output and modulates the charge to use the surplus rather than the grid.

Best for
Any house with solar panels.
Gain
Driving on electricity the installation has already paid for.
Requirement
A production meter the unit can read.

What we do

From assessing the board to the first charge.

Our electricians fit the unit, but above all they first check that the installation can take it. That is where the problems come from.

Assessment and advice

Power available at the meter, condition of the consumer unit, distance to the parking space, type of vehicle and charging habits. We tell you which unit makes sense in your house, and which one would be oversized.

Fitting and connection

Dedicated circuit from the board, residual current protection suited to charging, clean cable routing, wall or pedestal mounting, earthing checked.

Paperwork and follow-up

Declaration to the grid operator, commissioning, setting up the solar steering and the app, then support if anything goes wrong.

The trio that pays

Panels, battery, charging point: the car runs on your roof.

An electric car consumes a lot, and that is precisely what makes solar pay: every kilowatt-hour you use at home is worth far more than one exported to the grid. Add a battery and the evening charge still benefits from the midday sun.

Ecolive fits all three and sizes them together, in a single survey and with one contact.

How it works

A charging point, in five steps.

  1. Visit and assessment

Power at the meter, consumer unit, position of the charging point, cable distance.

  2. Choice of model

7.4 or 11 kW, steering by solar surplus, access control if several users.

  3. Quote and paperwork

Detailed quote, declaration to the grid operator, check on any local authority grants.

  4. Electrical installation

Dedicated circuit, protection, fitting and connection by our electricians, earthing checked.

  5. Commissioning

First charge tested with you, app configured, solar steering set up.

Frequently asked questions

Charging points: what people ask us.

What charging power should I choose at home?

7.4 kW single phase is the standard for a house: it charges most cars overnight. 11 kW three phase if your connection allows it and you drive a lot. We check the power available at your meter before proposing a model.

Can I charge my car with my solar panels?

Yes, with a steered charging point: it modulates the charging power according to the surplus your panels produce, so the car charges on your own electricity rather than the grid's. Paired with a home battery, the evening charge also benefits from the midday sun.

Does the charging point have to be declared to the grid operator?

Yes, every charging point must be declared to the distribution grid operator, and the consumer unit must be compliant. Ecolive handles the paperwork and brings the installation up to standard.

Does the meter or consumer unit need upgrading?

Sometimes. A badly connected charging point trips the installation when the heat pump or the oven starts. Our electricians fit a dedicated circuit with its own protection and check that the whole installation can take the load.

How long does the installation take?

Half a day to a day in most cases, depending on the distance between the consumer unit and the charging point, and on any trenching required.
